Business Development Executive

Opening in 2021, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre will be a world-class convention centre, centrally located in the heart of Christchurch, the gateway to the magnificent South Island of New Zealand. An exciting opportunity to be a part of the Te Pae Christchurch team is now available.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, we are currently looking to appoint a positive, professional Business Development Executive to join the Business Development team to help us develop long term partnerships and drive new event business.

The Business Development Executive is responsible for progressing client leads through the sales pipeline to a high prospect level, and then to a bid stage. Within this role there will also be the opportunity to work across a range of event types including live entertainment, exhibition and banqueting events.

Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients to progress the sales pipeline through research, and client calls within allocated market segment.
  • Qualification of research and lead opportunities – developing research provided into hot leads for Business Development Managers.
  • Collation of bid documents and hire agreements.
  • Conversion of proposals and bids to confirmed business.
  • Promote and represent the services and facilities of the Centre on local sales calls, at local trade shows and industry functions.
  • Develop local business development strategies that drive local business, conducting telephone sales, and promoting local campaigns.
  • Database management and reporting including accurately maintaining up-to-date information and providing reports as required.
  • Support the Director of Business Development in implementing business development initiatives and activities.
  • Develop effective relationships with all Te Pae Christchurch Stakeholders through appropriate communication and a positive attitude.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a minimum of Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Have proven experience in a client facing sales role.
  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience in a business environment, preferably hospitality.
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Have experience using Ungerboeck event management software.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and a professional phone manner.
  • Have good attention to detail and be able to work under pressure.

The role requires flexible working hours, the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
